1. What are the benefits of Psilocybin mushrooms?

Psychedelic plants and fungi have been integral to indigenous medicinal practices for thousands of years. Since the 1950s, the scientific community has extensively studied the benefits of psychedelic mushrooms, consistently reporting positive effects on behaviour, cognition, spirituality, and consciousness. As research advances, promising findings continue to emerge in the fields of neuroscience, mood and mental disorders, addiction, and habit formation.

Psilocybin is considered entirely safe when used responsibly in a secure environment with trusted individuals. As a naturally occurring compound, it is metabolised by the body into psilocin, which interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain. Psilocybin is non-addictive, and there are no documented cases of overdose. However, we strongly encourage you to conduct your own research and consult a variety of reliable sources.

Psychedelics remain illegal in many parts of the world, though the legal landscape is evolving as research increasingly demonstrates their safety and effectiveness in treating a variety of disorders. Globally, the legal status of psychedelics varies widely, with some countries legalising or decriminalising their use, while others maintain strict prohibitions.

In Europe, the legal status of psychedelics is complex and varies by country. In Portugal, the possession of small amounts of psychedelics, including psilocybin, has been decriminalised since 2001, meaning it is not a criminal offence but could result in a fine or referral to a treatment program. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, psilocybin truffles are legal and widely available, although psilocybin mushrooms remain illegal.

It is crucial to research the legal status of psychedelics in your specific location. Ensuring you are informed about the local laws is key to minimising legal risks and maximising the benefits if you choose to engage in psychedelic experiences in places where they are legal or decriminalised.

When considering the use of psilocybin mushrooms in combination with medication, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and professional guidance. As a pharmacist and psychedelic therapist, I recommend an in-depth assessment and intake process before proceeding. This involves a comprehensive review of your current medications to evaluate any potential interactions with psilocybin. Some medications, particularly those affecting serotonin levels, could interact with psilocybin, potentially leading to adverse effects or diminishing the therapeutic benefits.

During our consultation, I will carefully analyse your medical history and current prescriptions to ensure a safe and effective approach to integrating psilocybin into your treatment plan. This personalised evaluation will help determine whether the combination is appropriate for you and how to safely proceed.

When considering the use of psychedelics while managing a health condition, safety should be your primary concern. Combining psychedelics as psilocybin mushrooms with a pre-existing health condition requires a thoughtful and personalised approach.

It is crucial to consult a healthcare professional who is knowledgeable about both your medical history and the specific effects of psychedelics. Certain health conditions, particularly those affecting the heart, brain, or mental health, may pose higher risks when using psychedelics. Medications that influence serotonin levels, or conditions like heart arrhythmias, may require extra caution, as interactions with psilocybin could lead to complications.

This personalised evaluation will help determine whether the combination is appropriate for you and how to safely proceed.

At the moment, I am exclusively working with psilocybin mushrooms in my practice. However, I am actively expanding my expertise and therapeutic offerings, and in the future, I plan to integrate other psychedelics such as MDMA and Ketamine into my treatments. As these therapies become more accessible and supported by research, I aim to offer a broader range of psychedelic-assisted treatments to support diverse healing journeys. Stay tuned for updates as my practice evolves!

1. What can I expect from a Psychedelic journey?

A psychedelic experience facilitates a gentle and calm exploration of thoughts and emotions that are often avoided in everyday life. This process fosters a deeper connection with oneself, enabling the effective addressing of a wide range of personal challenges. Psychedelics have been shown to enhance neuroplasticity, making them valuable tools for disrupting entrenched thought patterns and replacing outdated habits with healthier behaviours. To maximize the benefits of psychedelic journeys, I offer comprehensive preparation and integration workshops, along with daily practices.

A microdose typically amounts to about one-tenth of a “high” or “full” dose. At this level, you won’t experience the perceptual changes associated with a full dose. Instead, a microdose is considered “sub-perceptual,” allowing you to go about your daily life without any impairment, while still potentially benefiting from the positive effects that many others who have microdose have reported.

Microdosing involves the integration of small, controlled doses of psychedelics, such as psilocybin mushrooms, into your weekly routine. This practice is designed to enhance cognitive functioning, creativity and promote psychological well-being.

People choose to microdose for a variety of reasons, including enhancing productivity, boosting creativity, finding relief from pain, or addressing specific medical conditions. Additionally, microdosing serves as a potential alternative to psychotropic medications, offering a natural approach to improving mental health and well-being. However, it’s important to understand that microdosing is not a quick fix, but rather a tool to accelerate self-awareness and personal growth. To experience the full benefits, it is essential to approach microdosing with proper preparation, clear intention, and thoughtful integration. Engaging the guidance of a professional microdosing coach can significantly enhance this process.

Microdosing is generally considered a safe practice. It is important to emphasise that microdosing carries significantly fewer risks compared to taking larger doses of psychedelics, such as the possibility of experiencing a “bad trip” or intense psychedelic effects. Microdosing offers a safe and effective way to explore the benefits of psychedelics in a controlled and comfortable setting. For those new to psychedelics, microdosing provides an ideal introduction, free from the risks associated with higher doses. While there is a lack of clinical research specifically focused on microdosing in humans, studies on larger doses of psilocybin-containing mushrooms have demonstrated that these substances are highly safe.
