Psilocybin is a natural compound found in some types of mushrooms. It is sometimes called a “magic mushroom.” Scientists are now studying its effects on people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The first studies show promising results, especially for mood, focus and movement.
At Conscious Pharmacist we have already succesfully helped various people with Parkinson Disease, by providing them with psilocybin microdosing and coaching therapy. Hence, why we describe the potential benefits in this article, so more people can benefit from it.
How Can Psilocybin Help with Parkinson’s?
Parkinson’s Disease is a multi-system disorder that causes a gradual decline in multiple cellular processes throughout different cells and tissues of the body, in the early stages. Parkinson’s disease is not only about shaking or trouble moving. Many people also feel sad, anxious, or have trouble thinking clearly. Current medicines do not always work for these symptoms.
Scientific studies show that psilocybin may support brain health in people with Parkinson’s. Here’s what we know so far:
1. Mental Health Support
Many people with Parkinson’s also feel depressed or anxious. Psilocybin – even in small doses – may help reduce:
Depression
Anxiety
Fear of the future
Loneliness.
The use of psilocybin can also boost thinking and memory, and it can help people feel more connected, positive, creative and at peace.

2. Neuroplasticity: Helping the Brain Adapt
Psilocybin may increase neuroplasticity. That means the brain can create new connections. For people with Parkinson’s, this might help their brain work better over time.

3. Neuroinflammation: Anti-inflammatory Effects
Parkinson’s disease is linked to inflammation in the brain. Scientific research shows that psilocybin and its active form, psilocin, act as potent anti-inflammatory agents in the brain. They help to reduce the production of key pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6, which play a major role in neuroinflammatory responses.

4. Neurogenesis: Growing New Brain Cells
Psilocybin stimulates neurogenesis, meaning it helps the brain to grow new cells and connections. Studies have shown that a single dose of psilocybin can increase the growth and branching of nerve cells by stimulating the production of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), a natural growth factor for neurons. This results in the formation of more connections, known as dendritic spines, between brain cells, which supports better communication and potentially reverses some of the damage caused by stress or neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson.
5. Improved Movement
Some users report better body awareness and reduced tremors during psilocybin sessions or microdosing. Psilocybin can give long-lasting benefits, even after the therapy has ended.
In a recent pilot study, people with mild to moderate Parkinson’s took two microdoses of psilocybin for a longer period of time combined with psychotherapy. The treatment was safe and well-tolerated. Most people felt better, with improvements in mood, memory, and movement that lasted for months.

What Is Microdosing and What Are Its Effects?
Microdosing means taking a very small dose of psilocybin—so little that you do not feel any strong effects or hallucinations. Some people with Parkinson’s hope that microdosing can help them feel better without side effects.
Microdosing very small amounts of psilocybin is not enough to feel high or hallucinate. But it may still offer health benefits. A common microdose is about 1/10 to 1/20 of a full psychedelic dose.
People usually microdose every 2–3 days, using a schedule under our guidance such as:
Fadiman protocol (1 day on, 2 days off)
Stamets stack (4 days on, 3 days off, sometimes with lion’s mane and niacin).

Short-Term Effects of Microdosing
May make people feel happier and less anxious
Some notice more energy
Increased focus
Improved sleep
Side effects are usually mild or not noticeable.
Various scientific studies show improvements in mood and mental health after a few weeks of microdosing. Many people report better well-being, feeling more hopeful and connected.
Long-Term Effects of Microdosing
Possible ongoing improvement in mood and quality of life.
Support brain repair through neuroplasticity.
Reduce long-term depression.
Improve resilience and emotional balance.
Possibly slow down the progression of some Parkinson’s symptoms.
For most people, there are no serious long-term problems reported so far.
Some scientific studies suggest there could be changes in how the brain works over time.

Frequently Asked Questions: Psilocybin & Parkinson’s
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is psilocybin safe for people with Parkinson’s? | Early studies show it is safe when given in a controlled setting and with medical support. There were no serious side effects in recent trials. |
| Can psilocybin cure Parkinson’s? | No, there is no cure for Parkinson’s. Psilocybin may help symptoms, especially mood and movement, but it does not stop the disease itself. |
| Will I get hallucinations from microdosing? | No. Microdosing uses a dose so low that it does not cause hallucinations or “tripping.” Most people do not feel any unusual sensations from microdosing. |
| How long do the benefits last? | In scientific studies and in our microdosing therapy programs, improvements in mood and movement lasted for weeks or even months after the treatment. |
| Can I try psilocybin at home? | No, it is not recommended. Psilocybin should only be taken under medical supervision, within a controlled environment, such as by Conscious Phramacist. This is needed to make sure it is safe and effective for everyone. |
| Is psilocybin legal? | In many places, psilocybin is still illegal, but in Portugal – where Conscious Pharmacist has its base – the use of psilocybin is allowed. Always check your local laws and consult a healthcare professional. |

Yes, psilocybin is generally safe in low doses for most people. But it is not for everyone. Some people should not take psilocybin, especially those with:
- A history of psychosis (e.g. schizophrenia)
- Certain heart conditions
- Unstable blood pressure.
In Short
Psilocybin therapy may give hope to people with Parkinson’s disease, especially for improving mood, movement, and quality of life. Microdosing can be an effective way to make use of the potential benefits psylocybin has to offer.
At Conscious Pharmacist, we offer education, safe guidance, and natural solutions based on science. If you or a loved one is living with Parkinson’s and are curious about microdosing, we’re here to help.
